As I write this column, we have just finished our September STGS luncheon. Mr. Alberto
Jimenez with the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists gave us a great presentation
on the licensing requirements for Texas geoscientists. The meeting was very interesting
and informative. If you are interested in getting some information on this topic, please
visit their website at www.tbpg.state.tx.us.
We are fast approaching National Earth Science Week, which is the week of October 14-20. This is a time for all geoscientists to get involved in their communities and to take the message to our schools and friends regarding the establishment of a conscientious society committed to the responsible use of Earth and its resources. Please try and do your part and get involved. At the September luncheon, we introduced the "Maps for Schools Project" that the STGS has undertaken this year. We had the "USGS Geologic Map of Time and Terrain" on display and had a very good response from everyone at the meeting. We are still looking for sponsors to help pay for the framing of the maps and geoscientists to go to the schools to present the maps to the teacher and students. If you or your company is interested in helping, please call me at (210) 829-8822 or email me at amedina@hollimonoil.com. By the time you get this Bulletin, the SEG will be over and, hopefully, you will be making plans to attend the GCAGS convention in Corpus Christi on October 21-23. Also, we are trying to plan a Fall Field Trip in early part of November, so be on the lookout for the announcement. In closing, we continue looking for new members that would want to join our society and help with some of our committee's. If you know of someone, send him or her our application that is enclosed in the bulletin. See you at our luncheon on October 10th. Mr. Geary Schindel, with the Edwards Aquifer Authority, will be giving a talk on the Edwards Aquifer. Armando "Mandy" Medina STGS President |
